You prepare a table for me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil, my cup runs over.
I heard a story one time about a poor cobbler in Austria who wanted to come to the United States. He saved money for several years. Finally, after much sacrifice, he had the money needed for his passage. He spent all he had on the ticket, with just barely enough left to buy some cheese and crackers to eat on the long trip.
The day came and finally he was aboard and on his way to a new life. He rationed his food very carefully each day. As the days went by, the crackers became stale and the cheese got moldy. He was so tired of the same old stale crackers and moldy cheese. The suffering was made worse as he saw and smelled the banquet that the ship’s chef was preparing morning, noon and night.
One day, as the trip was coming to a close, an acquaintance that he had met on the trip asks him if he would accompany him to dinner that night. Embarrassed, the poor man said that he didn’t have money for such a feast.
Much to his surprise, the man said, “The meals are included in the price of the passage.”
Can you imagine the shock as the man realized that he could have been dining in luxury and feasting every meal instead of eating old stale crackers and moldy cheese?
Many Christians are like this man. They know that their passage to heaven is paid for, but think that they just have to barely get by here on earth, living off of stale life and moldy experiences, while the world enjoys a splendid feast. The truth is, when Jesus paid for our sins, He also purchased all that we need to have a full and blessed life, now. Every thing that is desired for a full life is included in the price that Jesus paid. Enjoy the banquet on the trip through life, it is included.
