Light The World

Matthew 5:14,16

You are the light of the world. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father, who is in heaven.

The world is in darkness, total darkness. Obviously, I am not talking about physical darkness, you know that I am talking about spiritual darkness. The world and mankind has been in this darkness since the beginning of time when Adam and Eve disobeyed God in the Garden of Eden. This darkness is a darkness in the knowledge of God and His ways. Man lost that ability to know God, because according to scripture, his heart became darkened.

In the Gospel of John, chapter one, we are told that Jesus is the light of men, and that His light shines into the darkness and that the darkness could not overcome Him. We also see that a man was sent to bear witness of the Light, that man was John. His ministry and message to this world was to proclaim the Light of the world.

In today’s verse, we see that we also have been declared the light of the world. Now this light that we have is the same light that John proclaimed. It is Jesus who lives inside of us. We also have the message and ministry to proclaim and reveal that Jesus is the Light that has come to illuminate the darkness of this present world. He is the one that will remove the darkness and sin from the soul of man.

One thing that we need to notice here is that the Bible doesn’t say that we are to curse the darkness and to complain about how that it is ruining our lives as Christians, but that we are to be a light in that darkness. So often, we want the darkness to leave so that we will not be offended by it, but in reality, we are the ones who are supposed to transform the areas of life that we touch with the Light of Jesus Christ. This is God’s plan, light dispels darkness not vice versa. The darker the darkness, the brighter and more conspicuous is the light. That is our commission and call, go light the world.

MY WORD CONFESSION: I am the light of the world, because of Jesus who lives in me. I will light my world wherever I go today.
