Heirs Of God

Romans 8: 16-17

The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God; and if children, then heirs, heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ

I remember hearing one time about someone who came into a lot of money. I was pretty young at the time and wasn’t sure what that meant. I asked around and soon learned that it meant that he had received a large sum of money from an inheritance that he had received from a relative who had passed away.

The Bible tells us that we have an inheritance in the Kingdom of God. It is a special inheritance, we are heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ. Now I don’t know about you, but that is pretty exciting to me. I am an heir of God that means that what God has, He has bestowed upon me. As a joint heir with Christ, I have heirship to all that Jesus is heir to. That is what it means to be a joint heir, what is His is mine.

The problem is that most believers either don’t know what this means to them and what is theirs or else they are thinking that they cannot receive this inheritance until they get to heaven.

Now I understand that there are things that we have in heaven that are not available to us here on the earth in this time, but that is not true of so many of the things that we are heir to. The Bible teaches that the blessings, power, victory, prosperity, healing and abundance are ours now in this lifetime to enjoy. All of these are part of the inheritance of the saints that is for us now, today.

It is so important that we acknowledge and “come into” the things that God has given us as His heirs. How do we come into these things? That is the million dollar question. Let me answer that question with a question. How does one receive his natural inheritance from the one who leaves it to him? Usually it happens something like this. Someone dies and leaves you what they have, it is then declared to be theirs by a judge. In the spiritual realm, Jesus died so that we could have what He has. God, who is the judge says that it is ours. It is time that we receive what is ours and start enjoying our inheritance.

MY WORD CONFESSION: I have an inheritance now, I am an heir of God and a joint heir with Christ, I receive my inheritance.
